Tryout Procedure
The Tryout Procedure was originally passed by the Junior Board in August 2006. The procedure time frame has changed over time (changing from Wednesday at noon, to Monday at noon, to the current Sunday at noon). The most recent board motion dictating the “no earlier” date for the beginning of sanctioned tryouts is below. The general principles guiding the process that participants not be pressured, no written offers be made before a specific date and offers staying on the table have been a consistent policy since the procedure was first implemented.
We have created a window in which players can have an opportunity to tryout for multiple clubs. The window will start with a Saturday morning and run through Sunday at noon. Clubs can have as many tryouts as they want, this simply creates the front end of the tryouts for clubs. A club may give a written offer to a player and that player may accept that written offer. Instead of a complicated 48 hour rule that starts at different times based on the tryout, we created a window where a club may not take a written offer off of the table. The region will however, not acknowledge a written offer until the signing date, so a written offer must stay on the table until the signing date (Sunday at noon).
Clubs may have clinics prior to tryouts. If an offer is discussed at one of these clinics, then please know that nothing is binding from either party until the actual start of the appropriate tryout window. For an offer to be official, then the North Texas Region Offer and Acceptance Agreement Form must be completed and given to the player including a commitment from the Club as to which team is being offered.
This procedure is a compromise by allowing players to go to multiple tryouts within the window, along with allowing clubs to make timely selections putting their teams together. Final decisions by both the player and the Clubs should be done in a timely manner.
It is NOT a UIL violation to participate in tryouts while still playing middle school/high school volleyball.

18 & Under and 17 & Under divisions:
The first day of physical tryouts will be no earlier than the weekend of the UIL State Volleyball tournament in all classifications. A written offer can be made on or after that date and accepted; however the North Texas Region will not acknowledge any club affiliation until 12:00 noon the Sunday following the first day of physical tryouts.
16 & Under and 15 & Under divisions:
The first day of physical tryouts will be no earlier than 7 days prior to the final day of competition for the UIL State Volleyball tournament in all classifications. A written offer can be made on or after that date and accepted; however the North Texas Region will not acknowledge any club affiliation until 12:00 noon the Sunday following the first day of physical tryouts.
14 & Under and 13 & Under divisions:
The first day of physical tryouts will be no earlier than 14 days prior to the final day of competition for the UIL State Volleyball tournament in all classifications. A written offer can be made on or after that date and accepted; however the North Texas Region will not acknowledge any club affiliation until 12:00 noon the Sunday following the first day of physical tryouts.
12 & Under divisions:
The first day of physical tryouts will be no earlier than 21 days prior to the final day of competition for the UIL State Volleyball tournament in all classifications. A written offer can be made on or after that date and accepted; however the North Texas Region will not acknowledge any club affiliation until 12:00 noon the Sunday following the first day of physical tryouts.
12U: No earlier than October 27, 2012
13U: No earlier than November 3, 2012
14U: No earlier than November 3, 2012
15U: No earlier than November 10, 2012
16U: No earlier than November 10, 2012
17U: No earlier than November 17, 2012
18U: No earlier than November 17, 2012
