The PVL (Premier Volleyball League) is a grass roots professional volleyball league that is made up of teams from among the forty regional volleyball associations across the United States. The PVL is sanctioned by USA Volleyball. The first PVL Championships was held in Salt Lake City in 2012. The second year for Women was held in Louisville in conjunction with the USA Volleyball Adult Open Championships. The first year for Men will be in Reno in conjunction with the USA Volleyball Boys Junior National Championship. The Tournament of Champions (Women), which takes the top four womens teams from the PVL Championships), will be held in Dallas in conjunction with the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships.
For 2013,The North Texas region sponsored a team and it was comprised of 13 women who have all completed their NCAA Eligibility. Our initial roster had six returning players from 2012, whittled down to four by the start of the event. The additional nine included two University of Texas athletes and Ole Miss graduate and former Dallas Summit/Premier player, Regina Thomas.
The team arrived in Louisville the day before competition so they’d have an opportunity to practice before their 9:30am match the next day. Competition started on May 24, with TNT seeded 2nd in the division, the top seed in Pool 2 with four other teams. The team faced strong opponents in pool play, coming out of the first round undefeated at 4-0. The team would be the top seed in Round 2 with Dream Team from NCVA and Team New England. TNT went to five sets in their last match of the round against Dream Team, narrowly losing 15-17. Despite being disappointed about finishing 2nd and being relegated to the Silver division, TNT rebounded the next day, beating Badger Blizzards in four sets and in the Silver final, faced Hoosier Exterminators, the 2012 champion and top seed at the event. In a four set match, TNT was able to end the tournament with a win and first place finish in Silver, finishing 5th overall, with a 7-1 record (the best in the division) and the highest point ratio.
